Results of Postoperative Radiation Therapy for Breast Cancer

Abstract
Between 1983 and 1989, thirty two patients were treated with surgical resection and postoperative radation therapy at Inje university Pusan Paik hopital. There were l patient with stage I. 10 patients with stage Il, 21 patients with stage III.
The
local
control rate was 75%for the entire group. the local control rats for each stage were 80% for stage Il, 71% for stage III. The 5 year overall survival rate for the entire group was 50%. The 5 year survival rates for each stage IIA, IIB, and IIIB
was
100%, 50%, 41% and 20% respectively. Prinary tumor size has been identified as a prognostic factor influencing survival. There was difference of survival and locoregional relapse rates between 3 groups classified according to number of positive
axillary
nodes, however there was no statistical significance. Locoreginal relapse rate of the patients who received chest wall radiation therapy is lower than the patients who did not receive, but failed to show statistical significance. This study tried
to
find the high risk subgroup by the positive axillary nodes and primary tumor size but failed to find the high risk group with statistical significance because of small number of patient.
